They say breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day.
I know you’ve heard me say it before because it’s one of my favorite meals of the day.
Do you know that most people skip breakfast because they’re in too much of a hurry to get to work?
It’s true.
They think taking 10-15 minutes out of their morning will mess up their routine.
But did you know this – your body fasts during the night and it needs those nutrients to “wake up” and start performing.
Eating breakfast helps jumpstart your metabolism and helps you consume less fat throughout the day. A win-win if you’re trying to lose weight.
In addition, breakfast also gives you better brain performance (think attention and memory). We could all need a little help with that first thing in the morning!
That’s why breakfast is considered one of the most important meals of the day.
And if you feel like you don’t have enough time to eat breakfast, there are many options out there to help you make the time.
You can –
- Prepare your breakfast the night before. Example – Overnight oats.
- Make a protein drink – Smoothies & shakes with protein powder. Toss ingredients into a container the night before so all you have to do is add to your blender in the morning.
- Meal prep on the weekend or when you have spare time.
- Wake up 10 minutes earlier. Your body will perform better with food than 10 minutes extra of sleep.
- Go to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier for breakfast – there’s that 10 minutes back!
I like to make a big batch of pancakes and refrigerate the leftovers for later in the week. There’s nothing better than pancakes on a weekday!
Lately, my go to has been a chocolate Dutch Baby, also known as a Puff Pancake. It’s a German version of a pancake, cooked in a skillet in your oven and ready in 20 minutes. No more standing at the stove, flipping pancakes.
Eggs or oatmeal are other quick and easy ideas for breakfast. Both are nutritious and take less than five minutes to make.
Fresh fruit with plain Greek yogurt is another good option for a quick breakfast because the protein helps sustain your body until lunch.
I’ve gathered some recipes from my blog to help you kick start your way to a great day with some easy to prepare breakfast ideas. Most of these recipes are made the night before in less than five minutes and you can take them with you in the morning for the ride to work (if you carpool) or to enjoy at the office.
